2018 USA Weightlifting Summer Training Camps

Idaho Weightlifting's Coach, Michael Conroy worked 4 USA Weightlifing Summer Training Camps between July 31st and August 17th.

The first two where USAW Recruit Camps at the USAW/Rogue Training facility in Columbus Ohio. A total of 13 selected athletes that are transitioning from their primary sport to weightlifting took part in the training.  Conroy worked with USAW Director of Scouting Suzy Sanchez during the camps

The format was twice a day training on a 3, specific, lift rotation (Snatch, Jerk, Clean) for the time the athletes where at the camp. 

Athletes used the USA Weightlifting Top/Down, Part/Whole teaching progressions and advanced to the competition lifts by the camps conclusion. Evening Sessions included presentations by 3 Time Olympic Gold Medalist Pyrros Dimas, High Performance Director Mike Gatton and Sport Psychologist Colin Iwanski of the Chicago Bears. 

At the conclusion of the camps the athletes where given training programs that will be supervised by Conroy.

The second two camps where the annual USAW Masters Training Camps held at the OTC in Colorado Springs.

Conroy was part of the Coaching Staff that included 1972 Olympic Gold Medalist and former USAW Resident Coach Zygmunt Smalcerz, Olympic Bronze Medalist Cheryl Haworth, USAW World Team Member and Multiple USAW National Champion Jackie Black.

Athletes had 8 training sessions in the Ted Stevens Training Center on the OTC complex that provided exposure to a series of advanced training exercises that would assist the participants in improving their performances after they return home from the camp.  The Athletes also attended the USADA Presentation and another session where Conroy explained the rationale behind the Supercompensation Training programs that they would receive and how to stay in touch with him over the 12 weeks that the program would cover.
